The Three Rivers Saxophone Quartet is pleased to have Mark Colby as our special guest artist at our 20th annual saxophone and woodwind workshop June 21 - 25, 2010. Mark is a Chicago based jazz saxophonist, recording artist, clinician and educator. He has performed with many top celebrity entertainers and is First Call Studio Musician perfoming in over 2000 jingles. He is on the jazz faculty of both DePaul University and Elmhurst College and is in demand as a clinician for the Selmer Company. Mark will spend one day with us, Thursday the 24th of June and will coach a small ensemble in the morning, give a clinic and master class in the afternoon and will play a recital in the evening. We will be hosting our workshop at the Gallagher Music Center on the campus of California University of PA.  We have assembled quite a resident faculty. You can read all about them on this page. They will be available all of the five days.

Marino Galluzzo - Mike Jacob - Marcy Westerlund - Dave Matthews

Marino Galluzzo, Soprano Saxophone, has appeared as a soloist and ensemble performer across the US, Canada and Italy. He has performed on radio, television, on recordings and with symphony orchestras. Marino has also performed with many top local and international celebrities.. Marino is one of the founders of the Three Rivers Saxophone Quartet which hosts an annual week long saxophone workshop each summer at California University of PA. Marino was also a  founding member of the Canadian Saxophone Quartet and the Canadian Saxophone/Woodwind Trio. Marino plays saxophone and clarinet with local community concert bands, one of which he also directs. As an educator, Marino formally held the position of adjunct professor of saxophone at Duquesne University and Indiana University of PA and is currently employed as an instrumental music teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools in addition to teaching the saxophone, clarinet and flute in his private studio.
Michael Jacob, Alto Saxophone, graduated from Duquesne University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. He completed his graduate work there in performance.  Mike’s music performances have taken him throughout the United States and Italy. As a member of the Renaissance City Woodwind Quintet he has  performed in such places as the Carnegie Recital Hall , the Governor’s Mansion and the Kennedy Center. Mike has also played with the Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra and numerous local bands and orchestras. Mike enjoys a freelance career as a woodwind performer and teaches the clarinet, saxophone and flute at various schools in the Pittsburgh area. He also is currently employed as a music teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
Marcy Westerlund, Tenor Saxophone, is a graduate of Duquesne University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Masters Degree in woodwind performance. Marcy has previously taught school at all levels from elementary through college and formerly held the position of Director of Educational Programs with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra. In addition to playing with the Three Rivers Saxophone Quartet, she is a freelance woodwind artist and also teaches the saxophone, clarinet, flute and bassoon.  Marcy now has the most fulfilling, challenging and rewarding role as full time “stay at home” mom to baby Kathryn.
David Matthews, Baritone Saxophone,  is the Director of Bands at North Hills High School. Under his leadership, the Symphony Band was chosen as the high school band to perform at the 1995 and the 1998 PMEA In-service Conferences. In 1997, the Symphony Band was selected to perform at the MENC "Power Through Partnership" Eastern Division Conference, in Baltimore, Maryland. The Symphony Band and Jazz Ensemble received first place awards and superior ratings at the Festivals of Music in Orlando, Florida in 1994, and Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 1996. Mr. Matthews and the North Hills Instrumental Parents Association have commissioned works by Joseph Willcox Jenkins, Mike Tomaro, Elliot Del Borgo, Edward Madden, William Penn, Don Freund, and David Liptak. A graduate of Duquesne University in music performance and music education, Mr. Matthews is active as a freelance woodwind artist, performing with various local groups

Richard Mansfield is a versatile woodwind artist in the Pittsburgh area performing in all venues. He has worked with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as well as with many major celebrities. Richard is also is an active composer, arranger and educator. He was "the featured saxophonist in the nationally broadcast show DO-WOP 50". Rich is Director of Jazz Studies and teaches woodwinds at Rogers  School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Richard has written many arrangements for the TRSQ as well as for the various ensembles that he works with at the workshop.
James Sheppard is a freelance woodwind artist, repair technician and sales representative for Volkwien Brothers’ Music. He performs with  the “Burgh Big Band”, of which he is co-leader. After a four year tour as a Navy musician, Jim attended San Diego City College and  Duquesne University. As a repairman, Jim has worked with many top professionals. Jim is very active in education. In addition to his many clinics in the schools and his work with young jazz bands, he also maintains a private teaching studio.
 Dale Hertrick is co leader and founder of the "Burgh Big Band" and is in demand as a freelance woodwind artist performing in all styles in the Pittsburgh area. He has performed with many local and international celebrities. Dale is a also and educator and in addition to his own private teaching studio, he is a teacher at Rogers Creative Performing Arts middle school in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. There he teaches classes in theory, conducts the orchestra and supervises a staff of 10 adjunct music faculty.
James Nesbit, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, received his B.S. from Duquesne University in 1981.  His professional experiences include solo clarinet with the New York Harlem Opera Ensembles European tour of Porgy and Bess in 1981-82, lead alto saxophone with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra (1982-84).  Mr. Nesbit performs regularly with the Virginia Symphony, Virginia Symphony Pops, Virginia Opera, Richmond Symphony, and numerous touring Broadway productions on saxophone, clarinet, flute, and bassoon.  He has also appeared with many top entertainers. Currently Mr. Nesbit performs with the American Saxophone Quartet and the Great American Music Ensemble and can be heard on their upcoming album “It’s All In The G.A.M.E.”.  Mr. Nesbit was instructor of woodwinds at the Armed Forces School of Music and currently serves as instructor of saxophone at Old Dominion University, instructor of saxophone, clarinet and bassoon at Hampton University, instructor of woodwinds at Chowan College and instructor of saxophone and jazz winds at the College of William and Mary.  He resides in Virginia Beach with his wife Kerri and daughter Erin.
Nancy Gordon Galluzzo is a piano accompanist, music educator and director. Classically trained, Nancy accompanies vocal and instrumental soloists, performs and directs musicals each year for colleges and high schools, and coaches vocalists.  Nancy is resident pianist for the TRSQ workshops, teaches privately and at Point Park, serves as accompanist for the COPA Ballet and Musical Theater departments.
